As of 2018, the “Undetectable = Intransmissible” (U=U) formula, indicating that a person whose viral load is undetectable has zero chances of transmitting HIV sexually, was raised by UNAIDS and other international organizations as the “path towards ending the epidemic”. Together with the development of highly efective antiretroviral treatments, which imply the reduction of the number of pills and daily intakes, increasingly optimistic “Post-AIDS” discourses have raised “undetectability-untransmissibility” as a comprehensive, simple and efective response for controlling the virus at both the individual and community level. Tis article intends to observe “viral undetectability” taking into account the myriad of ways in which it is confgured and produced in diferent spaces, relationships and vital times in which it’s put into play. Based on an ethnographic study carried out in a Municipal HIV Program in the Province of Buenos Aires, we recover the narratives of two people undergoing long-term treatment to delve into the daily production of “being”, “staying” and “maintaining” undetectable. We consider, within this framework, that becoming-undetectable implies a co-existence between control and lack of control that develops itself within an intersubjective process, in which the subjects carry out searches to fnd answers to their sufering. Tese processes imply the formation of both fragile, momentary and uncertain ties as well as relationships with-others that constitute a reinsurance for treatment continuity.
