In the late twentieth century, it was strongly promoted the attraction of transnational capital to different sectors of Argentina’s economy, through policies, legislation and advantageous incentives. In this context, open sky mining gained momentum in Catamarca. Its exploitation is done outside of urban areas, but the effects generated by the production process are widely disseminated on health and the environment, social relations as well as in the structures of local and provincial government. This work pretended to analyze the transformations in Belén and Hualfín, two places near Bajo La Alumbrera, as receiving territories of large investments that were arising under development discourses. This paper also analyzes economic, productive, political, environmental, social and housing transformations in these localities and the region from the emergence of mining
