The immigration process in Misiones, Argentina, requires an exercise between the heuristic and the fieldwork articulated with its protagonists themselves: the immigrant settlers. This article analyses the construction of oral sources to study German-Brazilian migrants in the colonization of the Alto Paraná. The common thread is the thirty-four verse poem entitled “The adventures of a journey”, written by Edgar Luft in Hunrückisch dialect, which guides the experience of interviewing with the data found in written sources. In this sense, the study of immigration “from inside” of a community is a complex task, if not almost inaccessible for many reasons. It is not a coincidence that most of such investigations have been made by members of the group concerned or in their countries of origin. For this reason, the case story in the qualitative research, “from outside” the community, is a challenge to the task and the methodological reflection for the field of oral history, and also to the proposition in consideration here.
