This essay discusses how the theatre play Tayin kuify Kvpan represents the historical experience of forced displacement of Mapuche People in Argentina. The play was created within an activist strategy oriented towards promoting self-identification among mapuche young people at the beginning of the 21st century. The article draws upon mobility studies that explain indigenous experience through the concept of diaspora. After introducing the context in which the play was created, the article analyzes the mapuche repertoire that the play enacts and the way in which it addresses the experience of displacement in relation to the current situation of alienation. We focus on the culturally specific framework that the play generates in order to account for forced displacement and dismantle the alienating effects of the prevailing logic that is based on the idea that assimilation is unavoidable.
