The main objective of this work is to make an approximation to the problems related to the development and expansion of the gated communities today, based on the study of this process in the city of Mar del Plata during the last decade. To do this, we will focus on the analysis of the four main private urbanizations developed in the city during the period 2004-2016. The article will show how the interaction of private capital and the interests of dominant socioeconomic groups, aside from state regulation, generate dissimilar lifestyles in the periurban areas in which they settle. For its study, the methodology used was direct observation, the development of surveys, interviews, the use of data from secondary sources, journalistic articles and relevant bibliography.
