The Precuyano cycle rocks, crop up in the Cara Cura range, south of the Mendoza province. It´s a volcaniclastic sequence of 419 m thick, which consists of pyroclastic and volcanic rocks of andesitic composition. These facies are interfinguered with purple clastic levels of conglomerates, sandstones. This contribution presents a stratigraphic section of the Precuyano cycle with a detailed facies analysis of the unit. In the study area, basal infilling of the basin is characterized by the development of volcanic systems together with pyroclastic flows, block and ash flow and lava flows and to a lesser extent by deposits of alluvial fans. The main rift structures controlled the location of these volcanic and pyroclastic facies. They correspond to first order structures that followed the pre-existing regional scale anisotropies in the basement.
