Las prescripciones metodológicas en el Fedón: El método hipotético, la refutación y el conocimiento técnico relativo a los argumentos. Atravesar la erística con el recurso a los logoi

Abstract

En el presente trabajo me propongo analizar las prescripciones metodológicas del Fedón de Platón. Sostengo que el método allí expuesto no se agota en la famosa “segunda navegación”, sino que este pasaje debe leerse en conjunto con otros dos pasajes clave (85c-85e y 89d-91c). Estos pasajes permiten comprender el método hipotético como una práctica compleja que integra tanto el ejercicio de la refutación como el recurso a ciertos criterios de racionalidad compartida (conocimiento técnico relativo a los argumentos). La refutación y estos criterios de racionalidad se integran en el método hipoté tico explicando por qué Platón establece ciertos límites a la refutación, especialmente frente a la amenaza de la erística. A fin de ofrecer una visión integradora del método hipotético, propondré integrar todas las descripciones metodológicas que aparecen en el Fedón como también atender a la ejemplificación que el propio Sócrates ofrece de su ejercicio.

In this paper, I aim to analyze the methodological prescriptions found in Plato’s Phaedo. I argue that the method presented there is not limited to the famous “second voyage,” but that this passage must be read in conjunction with two other key sections (85c–85e and 89d–91c). These passages allow us to understand the hypothetical method as a complex practice that integrates both the exercise of refutation and the use of certain shared rational standards (i.e., proper knowledge concerning arguments). Refutation and these rational standards are integrated into the hypothetical method, helping to explain why Plato imposes certain limits on refutation —especially in response to the threat of eristic argumentation. In order to offer an integrative view of the hypothetical method, I propose to bring together all the methodological descriptions found in the Phaedo, as well as the example Socrates himself provides through its application.
