Vida domestica y prácticas de abastecimiento en Avellaneda (1930)

Abstract

El cruce entre el Riachuelo y el Río de la Plata albergó una prolífica actividad industrial, fértil para elasentamiento de diversas comunidades de migrantes. Hacia el sur del Riachuelo, las vías férreas seextendieron como un entramado. De los intersticios resultantes entre esta red ferroviaria, los arroyos ylos pajonales que gobernaban la orilla, se montaron nuevas construcciones que conjugaban resabios dela ruralidad y nuevos elementos industriales. El Mercado de Abasto y Frigorífico de Avellaneda apareceen escena en torno a 1930, en un contexto en donde la figura del inmigrante obtuvo un lugar primordiala través de la acción de las colectividades sobre el tejido urbano. La orilla sur del Riachuelo se convirtióen un escenario para la industrialización y la modernización. Del mismo modo que surgió una urbeindustrial de referencia nacional, también emergió un barrio proletario que pudo construir un espacio yun tiempo para responder a necesidades locales. En la pluralidad de voces que construyeron yresignificaron este territorio, indagaremos la función que le fue asignada a dicho mercado, no sólo comopunto de intercambio económico, también como espacio relacional y de encuentro entre la poblaciónlocal y las nuevas colectividades. Se propone una metodología que interprete estos espacios y los estudiebajo el carácter modernizante a partir de su apariencia exterior, «rasgos de su corteza territorial, susfacciones» (Gorelik, 2004, p. 27). El método, en este sentido, es abductivo. Siguiendo a Hoffmann (1998),una lógica que incluye la posibilidad de describir un hecho dado, en contexto, pero insertando unainferencia. Más que adivinar qué «guardan» ciertas estructuras morfológicas; la abducción forma partede un proceso de descubrimiento: se trata de tomar una o más hipótesis para ofrecer una nuevaexplicación y comprensión del objeto edilicio.The intersection between the Riachuelo and the Río de la Plata hosted a prolific industrial activity, fertile for the settlement of various migrant communities. South of the Riachuelo, the railroad tracks stretched out like a grid. From the resulting interstices between this railway network, the streams and the grasslands that governed the shore, new constructions were assembled that combined remnants of rurality and new industrial elements. The Mercado de Abasto y Frigorífico de Avellaneda appears on the scene around 1930, in a context in which the figure of the immigrant obtained a primordial place through the action of the communities on the urban fabric. The southern shore of the Riachuelo became a stage for industrialization and modernization. In the same way that an industrial city of national reference emerged, a proletarian neighborhood also took place and was able to make a space and a time to respond to local needs. In the plurality of voices that built and resignified this territory, we will investigate the function that was assigned to this market, not only as a point of economic exchange, but also as a meeting place between the local population and the new communities. A methodology is proposed that interprets these spaces and studies them under the modernizing character from their external appearance, (Gorelik, 2004). The method, in this sense, is abductive. Following Hoffmann (1998), a logic that includes the possibility of describing a given fact, in context, but inserting an inference. More than guessing what certain morphological structures "keep"; abduction is part of a discovery process: it is about taking one or more hypotheses to offer a new explanation and understanding of the building object.
