Adult fleas are obligate hematophagous insects, parasitic on wild and domestic birds and mammals, including humans. They do not have wings and have the third pair of legs adapted for jumping. They are important in public health as parasites, intermediate hosts and vectors of pathogens. In this chapter we register for Argentina 138 species and subspecies (48 endemic), belonging to 11 families of the 19 known. The provinces located in the Andean region exhibit the greatest richness of fleas (≥21), in contrast to those of the Neotropical region (≤20). The province of Buenos Aires is an exception, its significant richness would be the result of a greater number of surveys since the 1960s. We conclude that research on fleas in Argentina has increased in the last decade, which is reflected in a greater number of researchers, completed and ongoing doctoral theses, and the start of a new line related to the epidemiological importance of these insects in the environment, which has increased the knowledge of the biodiversity of fleas in the country.
