The article presents an interdisciplinary review of the social sciences’ literature on care, recovering key debates of the last forty years. The objective is to offer a reading guide for those who are introducing themselves this field of studies but focusing on the applications and casuistry with greater impact in Latin America. It starts from the first feminist reflections in the global North, and then discusses the Latin American contributions since the nineties, fostered by the “gender shift” in social research. This exercise leads, on the one hand, to the confirmation of the centrality acquired by the concept of care in Latin American research on gender inequalities. On the other hand, to the protagonism in the region of intersectional perspectives that pose the radicalization of said inequalities based on their overlap with racial, ethnic, xenophobic, class and age discrimination.
