In this paper we analyse the behaviour of the bourgeoisie in Argentina and Chile during the previous years before the establishment of the military regimes of Videla and Pinochet. We will rebuild the political action of this class, which is characterized by open intervention in the political sand, using lock outs, demonstrations and uprisings, with a strong recurrence towards direct action. In both cases, their actions were directed to create the conditions for the consummation of the coup, seeking to destabilize democratic governments and undermine its legitimacy. We explain this unusual degree of mobilization of the dominant class as a response to the threat that implied the rise of class struggle and the revolutionary processes opened since the late 1960s in both countries.
