This paper aims to analyze, comparatively, the mortality trend due tumors by age group and sex in Argentina and Brazil. It also studies this trend according to tumor type and localization. Based on official vital statistics and population estimates, specific mortality rates arecalculated and analyzed taking into account the disaggregations referred. Besides the results contribute to corroborate some disparities documented in previous studies, they show that the magnitude and direction of the rates in some population groups are similar in both countries, especially for certain tumors. These findings are related to, at least, two issues: the actions carried out by these countries in order to reduce morbidity and mortality due tumors; and the progressive improvements in deaths registration in Brazil, whose coverage of vital events has been historically lower than the Argentinian one.
