The aim of this work is to develop the necessary methodological requirements for the study of zooarchaeological samples from geometric morphometric techniques in two dimensions (MG 2D). The advantages and limitations that arise when applying these methods in a case study are presented: the differentiation of species of camelids of similar size, llamas and guanacos, based on the analysis of the shape of bones from sites located in the northern sector of the Humahuaca quebrada (Jujuy, Argentina). The results indicate that the 2D MG constitutes a tool with high potential for the quantitative study of the shape of the postcranial camelids bones and that contributes with their taxonomic identification.
