This article analyzes the influence of the U.S. constitutional model on the development of River Plate and Argentine federalism during the 19th century, focusing on the impact of The Federalist Papers. It examines key constituent moments before and after the conspicuous 1853 Argentine Constitution: The Assembly of the Year XIII and the General Constituent Congress of 1824- 1826, followed by the national organization process initiated with the 1860 constitutional reform and concluded around 1880. The study analyzes the local reception of U.S. history and constitutional doctrine, the predominant meaning attributed to the U.S. example, and the specific uses of The Federalist Papers. It concludes that the U.S. example operated dually: as an institutional design to adopt and as a symbol of successful constitutional compromise. However, its impact was modulated by limited access to primary sources, local reinterpretations, and the debate between the theses of constitutional imitation (Sarmiento) and originality (Alberdi).
