In the last times, the Charismatic- Catholic- Renovation (CCR) has become an interesting subject for research, because of its features and its origin. From a theoretical point of view, the CCR process can be analyzed according to different frameworks. Even though the CCR is a Catholic expression that has gained poor people among devotes, it is not a typical case of popular Catholicism -the traditional beliefs and praxis of peasant population-, which does not a real link with the official Catholicism. Because of its origins, and specially, its rituals the CCR is similar to the Pentecostalism and Charismatic Churches. Nevertheless, taking into account the acceptation of the CCR by the institutional Catholicism, emerges a question about the possibility of considering the CCR a new religious movement. In this paper, the author focuses on these perspectives and gives suggestions for developing an alternative approach.
