The productivity of the agricultural research and development systems differs between countries and the structure of the system is a fundamental element to explain this difference. The research system of a country may be described through the distribution of the scientific publications of the organizations that create knowledge and through their collaboration. In this work, using the Scopus database, the collaboration between the Argentinian research and development organizations with other countries and the contribution per organization over all the high quality Argentinian agricultural scientific publications were quantified. Publications on wheat, maize, soybean and sunflower between 2000 and 2018 were analyzed. Almost half of the Argentinian publications had at least one co-author affiliated to a foreign organization (total= 88 countries), mainly the United States (8-14%, depending on the crop), Spain (4-7%) and Brazil (3-7%). Collectively, the national universities took part in largest proportion of the articles (79-86%), followed by CONICET (47-55%) and INTA (18-27%). Collaborations between national organizations from the total of their publications were, in descending order: University-CONICET= 30-41%; University-INTA= 13-17%; INTA-CONICET= 7-11%; University-INTA-CONICET= 7-8%). Considering the first authorship, UBA (13%), UNLP (7%), UNL (6%) and UNMdP (5%) were the national universities with the higher number of publications. Only a few companies and one non-governmental organization were among the first 15 places in some of the crops, while the private universities were very underrepresented.
