This article analyses some of the different arguments against voluntary abortion and specifies its weakest aspects from an ethical-philosophical perspective. Furthermore, it examines some of the mostly used arguments supporting voluntary interruption of human life and exposes as well some of its most important weaknesses. After concluding that the most frequently discussed positions about voluntary abortion – both, the positions for and against – present several inconsistencies from the point of view of philosophical reflection, it offers arguments that can assist a critical approach of an unquestionably very complex question which requires the incorporation of contributions of ethics and philosophical reflection and which also needs to be enriched by interdisciplinary investigations.
