Harvesting using regeneration methods in Nothofagus pumilio (lenga) forests are based on the success of the natural regeneration to quickly recover the overstory canopy. In this context, long-term monitoring is essential for planning complementary silvicultural activities, with their implementation at landscape level, being the greatest challenge of the last decades. The objective was to evaluate the recovery of harvested lenga forests under shelterwood cuts on a temporal scale (5 to 20 years after harvesting) and landscape level in Tierra del Fuego (Argentina). The recovery of the canopy cover was assessed using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and field monitoring in permanent plots. The NDVI allowed for obtaining forest cover recovery values, where the results can be compared with field data. Both working scales (NDVI + permanent plots) complement each other satisfactorily for assessing the recovery of forest cover in managed forest over the last 20 years.
