There is a significant amount of critical works addressing mimesis or remembrance in the work of W. Benjamin. However, there are some few authors that have examined the link between both concepts. This paper aims to show that remembrance should be taken as inherently dependent on the activity of mimetic faculty. It maintains that for Benjamin mimesis has a double duty in respect of remembrance: as the object of memory and the dynamics of remembering act. In the first sense, mimesis is identified with a primitive stage that is the primordial object of remembering; in the second sense, the act of remembering is determined by grasping and production of a similarity between past and present (or between ‘whant has been’ and ‘what is now’). The perception of theis similarity is related by Benjamin to historical knowledge and the political action.
