From a joint approach of the policies on public lands towards creoles, “friendly indians” and other social grups during the liberal context after Caseros, the aim of this article is to examine the emplacement of “Villa Fidelidad”, that constituted a singular case of land grants to indians in Azul town in 1856. We asume the importance of the conjuncture, the local particularities and the previous period to understand it, since we propose that somehow echoed what happened there during the Rosas period with other sectors that were beneficiaries of lands. We argue that due to circumstantial needs and whithin a high political-institutional and frontier convulsive moment, the government resorted to clientelar measures and practices that were trying to be eradicated at the same time whithin the new liberal context in order to strengthen its social base and to pacify the frontier.
