This paper presents a characterization of the British and Argentine memorial landscapes in Malvinas Islands, specifically in Puerto Argentino and the close-by mountains on which the decisive battles of the 1982 war took place. The British memorial landscape is inscribed in a formalized national commemorative tradition and a well-established liturgical code. It honors the British armed forces, specific military units, and individuals fallen in combat. On the other hand, there is a non-official Argentine commemoration, developed by veterans and relatives of fallen soldiers, which is clandestine (as it is not authorized by the local authorities), ephemeral (as it is rapidly eliminated by local inhabitants) and largely hidden (in order to avoid the former). Unlike the British commemoration, Argentine memorialization also can be conflictive, expressing opposed views of the 1982 war and its participants.
