The analysis of an osteological set corresponding to the Upper Unit of the Chenque I cemetery (La Pampa) is presented from the perspective of Archaeothanatology or Funerary Taphonomy through an archaeological approach that studies post-depositional interactions with the dead. The results confirm that Chenque I site (La Pampa, 1200 to 290 years BP) is a cemetery in which many of its burial structures were reopened and intentionally disturbed after the completion of its funerary cycles. These patterns of systematic disturbance were reflected in the formation processes and taphonomic history of the Upper Unit and are expressed in the form of numerous isolated, mostly fragmented, dispersed bones and bone groupings, called concentrations or removals. The causes of these post-depositional practices show that these disturbances were not accidental, but rather were probably an integral and significant part of the mortuary practices of human groups during the continued use of the cemetery over several hundred years
