This work analyzes the capability of art exhibitions, understood as the primary instances of contact and circulation of artistic phenomena, to formulate representations about art of a certain time. It is proposed that exhibitions produce discourses that can conform epocal stylistic characteristics, and that are observable, at least, from the exhibitionary devices. With this in mind this essay studies the exhibit Some artists. Argentinian Art 1990-today (PROA, 2013) to find the representations about contemporary art generated by it, and –due to the fact that the show contains works from three private collections– to account for the role of art collecting and how it changed in Argentina from the 1990’s.
