Abstract

The victory and consolidation of Javier Milei in Argentina’s 2023 elections surprised many political, academic, and business observers, sparking debates about the reasons behind this unexpected phenomenon. After a brief analysis of the Argentine social context during that period, the key role of young people, particularly from popular sectors, will be examined. These groups provided Milei with a massive and dynamic support base that had been building for at least two years, propelling his candidacy forward. The blind spots in official narratives and the uniqueness of the rightward shift in Latin America will also be addressed. Finally, the relationships between the far right and religious groups in shaping the political support that brought Milei to power will be critically analyzed.
