To do so, we start from Isaiah Berlin’s canonical distinction and Judith Shklar’s critique of it. Secondly, following Wendy Brown, we develop the notion of sacrificial citizenship present in neoliberalism, paying special attention to the relationship it establishes between freedom and the social. We aim to interrogate the link between freedom and sacrifice in contemporary Argentina, a question that, we argue, allows us to see to what extent freedom is detached from the social, and therefore, from the sphere in which some kind of democratic equality can be built.
