The purpose is to survey and categorize the types of reelection for executive positions in Argentine Provinces on the basis of two main analysis axes: one focused on the Governor and Vice-Governor positions, and the other one focused on mayors. The premise is that reelection is a mechanism used by executives to entrench in power and is present in both subnational levels chosen for this analysis. The methodology used to develop this work was document analysis. The period considered wasfrom 1983 throughout 2023 and, within that timeframe, temporary modifications across all the 23 provinces that comprise the Argentine Republic were analyzed. One of the most striking findings isthat about half of the provinces limit reelection in regards to the Provincial executive branch, whereas there is a distinct trend towards allowing indefinite reelection of mayors, although this does not fit all cases.
