The article supports that from the late 50's onwards, a new field of Catholic indigenist pastoral action was configurated in Latin America. The “development”, first, and the “liberation”, later, were central elements of this misional reconfiguration. The analysis of the cases of Paraguay and Brazil allows to support the hypothesis that during the decade of 1970 these pastoral networks were dedicated to the promotion of forms of native political organization and to the struggle for the indigenous lands. Afterwards, towards the 1980 decade, the main key of intervention of these indigenist Catholic groups became the action in orden to obtain native rights, even in a constitutional level
