Morphological and historical evidence provides new insights into the type series of Chrysobrycon hesperus, the type species of the genus Chrysobrycon (Characiformes: Stevardiidae)

Abstract

The type series of Chrysobrycon hesperus (Böhlke, 1958), the type species of the genus Chrysobrycon Weitzman & Menezes, 1998, is revised. Our study clarifies and updates both the collection and morphological data associated with these specimens. Additionally, we present morphological and historical data supporting the recognition of a specimen deposited in the fish collection at the Museo de Historia Natural “Gustavo Orcés V.” (MEPN-I) as a missing paratype of C. hesperus. The coordinate data associated with the type series were corrected, estimated, and plotted on a geographical map.Die Typusserie von Chrysobrycon hesperus (Böhlke, 1958), die Typusart der Gattung Chrysobrycon Weitzman & Menezes, 1998, wurde überarbeitet. Unsere Studie klärt und aktualisiert sowohl die Sammlungs- als auch die morphologischen Daten, die mit diesen Exemplaren verbunden sind. Zusätzlich präsentieren wir morphologische und historische Daten, welche die Anerkennung eines Exemplars aus der Fischsammlung des Museo de Historia Natural „Gustavo Orcés V.“ (MEPN-I) als einen fehlenden Paratypus von C. hesperus unterstützen. Die mit der Typenserie verbundenen Koordinatendaten wurden korrigiert, geschätzt und auf einer geografischen Karte dargestellt.
