In this article, we propose a reading of the novel ¡Estafen! of Juan Filloy, who is considered one of the more prolific writers of Argentina and nevertheless one of the less analysed. This way, we also want to collaborate with a period (1930-143) few examined by literary studies. We will scrutinise some specific topics -State, Nation, fraud, money, evasion- paying attention in the ways that the novel is able to conjure the emptiness of its time and how it dialogues with the literature of the period. In conclusion, in Filloy, the adulteration of language sets a new style that stands on a plot where counterfeit money can establish a new society.
