In the Sierras Centrales (Córdoba and San Luis) and adjacent plains, the lithic resources are the main component of the archaeological record. Throughout the history of research lithic resources have been studied through different theoretical approaches. However, work specifically aimed at the detection of primary and secondary lithic sources (v.g. creation of a Regional Basis of Lithic Resources) didn’t have a comparable development like other regions in Argentina. Therefore, this work includes several lines of evidence. First, studies with archaeological evidence of primary and secondary lithic sources exploitation. Also, potential lithic sources are included. This was the result of an intensive archaeological bibliography review, and it allowed to locate archeological sites (and the rocks recorded) in different sectors of the area. Once the sites were located, it was possible to combine them with geological studies where the petrographic characteristics of the surrounding mountains are specified. As a result, potential areas for lithic raw materials provisioning were postulated, and some of the rocks were geologically characterised. This initial approach is expected to guide the search of rocks on the ground and to construct a common language between archaeologists and geologists working in the area.
