The Paraguayan War was the most important armed conflict in the Latin American history. The “triple alliance” of Argentina, Brasil and Uruguay fought against Paraguay between 1864 and 1870. It was a very significant event in the consolidation of the Argentine national state. However, recent studies approaching the construction of the Argentinian national identity did not focus on the war period. In this paper, I intend to analyze the representations about the nation during the conflict in the newspapers of Entre Rios and Corrientes provinces. The Litoral region was deeply involved in the war due to its geographic location, among other factors. I discuss the confrontation about the representations of the Argentinian nation between newspapers that supported and newspapers that were opposed to the Alliance. In addition, I deal with the representations of Paraguay and the Brazilian Empire in the same sources.
