This paper examines the psychometric properties of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale among adolescents in Buenos Aires city. The sample consisted of 267 adolescents from Buenos Aires city (47.9% men and 52.1% women; mean age 14.89 years, SD = 1.52), and 449 Psychology students at the University of Buenos Aires (13.2% men and 86.8% female; mean age 25.66 years, SD = 6.7). The applied instruments were: the Rosenberg SelfEsteem Scale, Beck Depression Scale Inventory-II and the Inventory of Eating Behaviors. A principal component factor analysis with 1 factor solution, Kaiser Criterion and varimax rotation was done. The extracted factor contained the 10 items of the scale and explained 36.14% of the variance. A 2 factor-solution was also tested, but its distribution was unclear. The confirmatory factor analysis showed an adequate adjustment to the 1-factor model. Adolescents scored significantly lower than university students on the scale. No significant differences between men and women were found in the scores. No correlation was either found between scores and the age of the participants. The scale showed inverse correlations with measures of Depression, Body Dissatisfaction and Drive for Thinness. No negative bias in responding inverse items was observed in the population. The Rosenberg scale has demonstrated adequate psychometric properties and can be used in studies of Buenos Aires city adolescent population.
