The implementation and calibration of a physically-based and spatially-distributed quasi-2D mathematical model in the basin of Tercero - Carcarañá river (Córdoba and Santa Fe Provinces) is presented. The basin area is approximately 61454 km² and its main stream is the Tercero - Carcarañá river, whose outlet is in the Coronda River, near Puerto Gaboto. The information from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM ) was used as digital terrain model (DTM ) with cells of 900 m x 900 m. Additional information about river network was obtained through the IGN topographic maps, Google Earth©, local topographic data and existing projects. The mathematical model was implemented with 75870 cells and a river network of 1705 km (1895 cells) and was preliminarily calibrated with hydrological and hydraulic data from three extraordinary events. To advance the understanding of the mechanics of runoff propagation one first application was to determine the incidence of surface contributions from elemental areal units in 17 characteristic points of the network of main courses. While evidence of a severe lack of information, the first results obtained in the rainfall - runoff transformation and propagation of surface runoff are acceptable.
