The health and economic crisis faced by the world today due to the COVID-19 pandemic constitutes an interesting scenario to analyse the role of international financial institutions. Based on a questioned architecture, and crossed by the appearance of new relevant stakeholders, this paper asks about the COVID-19 response of the main multilateral financial institutions. Our analysis includes the International Monetary Fund, World Bank Group, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, New BRICS Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank Group and Andean Development Corporation. We describe their initial response to the crisis and the types and volume of instruments deployed. It seeks to identify proposals for greater complementarity between the Latin America and the Asia Pacific institutions.
