The present essay proposes to discuss the way in which Marx introduces the state currency and the national dimension in his investigations, both in Capital (1867) and in Contribution to the critique of Political Economy (1859). This exercise will be done in the light of his greatest discovery: the genesis of money (Levín, 1997, 2010). We will argue that the analysis of the state currency is premature, extrinsic to the conceptual development that Marx had reached up to that point. To justify the above, we will divide the paper into three sections: in the first we will briefly expose the "instrumental" notion of money/currency of the "pre genesis of money" economic theory; second we will reconstruct succinctly the nucleus of what we consider the original contribution of Marx's genesis of money; finally, in the light of the above, we will justify in what sense is premature the appearance of state currency in the author's work.
