Based on the theoretical reflection of Leonardo Funes on the textual traces of the crisis of the Castilian 14th century, this paper deals with the theme of death in the Libro del caballero Zifar as a representation of a Christian and at the same time profane conception of death and chivalric life, which come into tension in the period. In the adventures of Zifar and Roboán, but especially in the fantastic episodes of the solpharian lake and the endowed islands, death is related to the punishment of treason and is opposed to the good death conceived as the continuity of life itself and the preservation of the lineage. Particularly in these episodes, death is feared and reviled, as is sin, in relation to the diabolical, suggestively associated with the feminine; in a complementary way, the feminine vulnerability that needs to be protected from death as a constant danger promotes chivalric virtue as a representation of the measure of good in the adventures of the central protagonists of the story.
