This article stems from a qualitative research project that sets out to analyze how knowledge acquired outside of school enters and is reinterpreted in the construction of school knowledge in secondary education. To this end, a case study was on the discourse record of a design-based research project focused on the teaching of biodiversity in a secondary school in Córdoba, Argentina. The discourse analysis allowed for the inductive identification of categories distinguishing the entry and use of out-of-school knowledge in the classroom: a) directly introduced by teachers; b) voiced by students but prompted by teachers; and c) spontaneously contributed by students. The findings reinforce the importance of building bridges with everyday knowledge for the shared construction of school knowledge.
