This paper examines postgraduate training and the evaluation of teaching careers within the framework of the development and deployment of the academic profession in Uruguay and Argentina from a comparative and biographical perspective, using the University of the Republic and the National University of Mar del Plata as case studies. These objects of study are analyzed transversally, recovering the beginning, development, and consolidation of the professional trajectories of those who carry out teaching, research, outreach, outreach, and management in daily university life. We consider the proposed research relevant because the results achieved will allow for the systematization of situated knowledge of the characteristics of the academic profession and teaching evaluation in the context of university governance specific to UdelaR, compared with a public university in the region. In addition to enabling comparability with the Argentine university, it opens research horizons for incorporating Uruguayan higher education into the International APIKS project, interacting with the global university landscape based on its own local characteristics. The results of this project will enable the design and implementation of new public policies for the university sector in general and the universities studied in particular.
