It is widely demonstrated that parent-child interaction has a significant impact on children's mental health. The bonds created between parents and children can either ease the affective growth of the latter or actually complicate their development and expression. From this perspective, the present work aimed at analyzing the results of two independent studies carried out in order to recognize whether the quality of the attachment bond and parenting style predict the experience of positive emotions in children. Two samples of argentine school-age children (n1 = 105 and n2 = 226) were tested. Different self-report methodologies were used to assess the attachment bond, parenting styles, and positive emotions such as happiness, serenity, charm and self-satisfaction. Results obtained from a Multiple Linear Regression analysis are in line with the theoretical postulates and indicate that children's appraisal of their mother's availability, as main attachment figure, constitutes a predictive factor of children's happiness and self-satisfaction. On the other hand, it was found that while hostile maternal control weakens happiness, a normal one tends to strengthen it, and that parental acceptance predicts charm. Likewise, it was observed that extreme paternal autonomy diminishes serenity and low maternal interference improves gratitude.
