The article aims to introduce the problem of plural temporality in the work of Álvaro García Linera as a contribution to 21st century Marxism. The proposal is to define plural temporality as a problem of materialist tradition based on the reflections of Vittorio Morfino and Natalia Romé. We mention four characteristics that seem fundamental to us since they return in the work of García Linera: 1) the repositioning of a theory of time as non-contemporary; 2) it is a materialist tendency in philosophy that does not seek to “disprove” the myths but to produce a critique that, pointing out their ideological character, thinks the form of their unity as a problem in itself; 3) the possibility of thinking of a story as a “process without a subject or ends”; 4) a reflection on the way in which the capitalist mode of production affects time through its own complex temporality. The place that this question has in the Marxist tradition is specified from the review of some texts of Marx in order to show that it is an ever-present problem but that requires a reading operation. Having made this detour, we introduce ourselves into the work of García Linera, following the coordinates, features and examples mentioned and locating how the introduction to the Kovalevsky notebook and the presentation of the book Community, nationalism and capital are texts in which the problem of plural temporality as “multilinear” temporality appear as a contribution that allows developing the Marxist theory at the same time as placing a reading of the historical present in political terms.
