Although the concept of negationism was first employed to denote Holocaust denial, its use soon diversified: thus, in Argentina it usually refers to those discourses which aim to debunk the existence and execution of a repressive plan that, preluded during the María Estela Martínez de Perón years, was deployed under the dictatorship established in 1976. Parallel to those mecanisms, there is another use of history which could be called relativization, as it tends to understate the graveness of State terrorism by positioning it in a narrative series that normalizes and/or banalizes it. is paper will analyze the implementation of such strategies by a wide array of actors, situating them in the context of recent political and cultural developments as to make sense, whenever possible, of their efficacy.
