The present article focuses on a methodological reflection on our research on a philosophical archaeology of punishmnet. We present here the work with a historical a priori, which we call metaphorically “faraway, so close”. In opposition to the idea of a metahistorical origin, of an ideal character, we present the creation of a fiction or restitution of scenes, which although they are historical –insofar as they do not add a point outside of it–, they are not always susceptible of being located in time. In order to characterize this historical practice, Friedrich Nietzsche’s concept of “prehistory” and Michel Foucault’s concept of “the originary” illustrate how the originary is contemporary to us, and the key of access to it, as a not-lived, is found in the genealogical work of determining emergence and provenance. The work with this historical a priori can account for a common field of experience and becoming in the configuration of the indebted subject and the penal subject –the object of our research–, insofar as it enables us to determine, but also to resize, the problem of the forms of singular and political resistances, giving critical thickness to a diagnosis of the present.
