This article problematizes the relationship between gender and performance in the dramaturgies of the NOA. We consider the figure of the transvestite because of its proliferation in the dramaturgies of the region as a representation crossed by tensions before which each dramatic text is positioned. We adopt a sociocritical perspective to account for the multiple ways in which dramaturgies inscribe the ideosem of the transvestite and we analyze its limits and possibilities. To this end, the ideosem of the transvestite is taken as the object of analysis in three dramatic texts, Hey there (2014) by Luis Caram, Hay cadáveres (2015) by Lucila Lastero, Indesirables (2018) by Nicolás Pecci. We conclude that theater is a genre device capable of putting patriarchal categories and visions about bodies and identities in crisis.
