Resumen
Most parasitic diseases do not elicit a significant immune response. However, the emergence of parasite clones and gene mutations has led to clinical resistance to the most widely used anti-parasitic drugs and treatment failure, rendering them largely ineffective. Therefore, the need for new and alternative anti-protozoal drugs is very high by improving the chemical structure of the drugs used. Several triazole-based drugs have been used in the clinic for the treatment of various diseases, showing excellent pharmaceutical profiles. Hybridization of triazoles with several nitrogen-based heterocyclic compounds has potential for clinical use in the control of parasitic diseases. This review covers recent advances in the production of triazole hybrids and structure-activity relationships useful for designing more efficient and relevant antiparasitic candidates.
