The aim of this investigation was to study the effect of ZSM-5 zeolites in the in situ upgrading of peanut shells pyrolysis vapors. Two types of zeolites were synthetized: the protonic form and the metal form. Last one modified by the incorporation of transition metals cobalt, iron and nickel, varying the metal loading (1-2%). The experiments were carried out in a fixed bed reactor at 500°C for 20 minutes. The product yields and the composition of the produced bio-oil wereaffected by the use of all ZSM-5 catalytic materials, compared to the non-catalytic pyrolysis, producing in most cases less bio-oil but of better quality. Some platform molecules for chemical industry such as 5-hydrodymethilfurfural, cumene, xylene and toluene among others were found when the catalysts were used, whereas they were absent in the thermal experiments.
