One of the main functions of national universities is scientific research. The democratization of knowledge can be carried out through different strategies, including Public Communication of Science. Within the framework of various proposals made in a cycle called Scientific Café at the National University of Río Cuarto, we developed an investigation on perceptions of varied audiences (children, youth and general public). In this article we share the meanings constructed by a group of high school students from the city of Río Cuarto and the region (Córdoba, Argentina). For data collection, a questionnaire with open and closed response items was used. Some data was processed with the PSPP 0.10.1 program and others through the IRAMUTEQ. The results allowed knowing that young people value this type of proposal, highlighting as interesting the form and resources that the communicators/researchers used. Among the aspects to be modified they request proposals with greater interaction and experimentation. Likewise, they perceive scientific work as a research activity to learn about something or a subject that is novel.
