This paper proposes a theoretical itinerary surrounding the controversial concept of “humor”, especially in reference to the presence of humor in a literary context, and specifically concerning the connections between humor and poetry in Spanish literature. This exploration also presupposes the approach to categories, genres and related procedures that build a theoretical constellation around this general concept: parody, satire, irony, etc. Thus, we aim to distinguish its scope, effects and specific meanings, placing them in dialogue with various poetics of contemporary Spanish lyric. Links between poetry and humor will be recognized diachronically in various authors and texts of Spanish poetry, and will be studied specifically in different poetics and authors of the twentieth century: the Generation of ‘27, postwar social poetry and the most recent poetics, which renews these links in the context of the “poetry of experience” and “new realism” of current poetry.
