The "Dependency" has been , at different times , a central theme within the Latin American intellectual field . Appeared strongly during the second half of the nineteenth century , in the context of " Mental Emancipation " and " Second Independence " Continued in the 1920s with cosmopolitanism / nationalism debate , and reappeared in late 1950 with the movements of decolonization and liberation. Developed as a sociological subject and as a theory of social change in the Chilean academic field between 1964 and 1973 , under the impulse of a consistent policy of consolidating and scientific system of higher education . In this year , when it was democratically elected socialist government of Salvador Allende , Santiago was constituted as the axis of a dynamic regional academic circuit. In this work , we propose to analyze, from a sociohistorical perspective , the conditions of emergence of the Latin American School of Dependency ( Blömstron & Hettne , 1991) and the particularities of the social space in which this knowledge is produced.
