This article examines, at the beginning of the 1820s in Buenos Aires, the intervention of some periodical publications whose most outstanding features place them within what I call “denuncialist press.” That is, press organizations that accuse authorities or some resident of the community by name and surname, a fact that is not well regarded within the rules of journalism and that determines, in general, the censorship of the publication and the trial of journalists and editors. This article will examine that this form of intervention works in a certain “scenario”, that is, it occurs in a press with particular characteristics based on the public domain in which it is inserted, a language that is linked in some way to the context in which it is inscribed, and the emergence of the figure of scapegoat, a notion that is relatively common in social imaginary in periods of crisis or high conflict.
