Artifacts of black vulcanites are present in different proportions along the Limay River basin (Northern Patagonia, Argentina). Previous research located a source of this material on the southern side of the Limay River, at the quarry Paso Limay. Petrographic and chemical analyses have returned slightly different classifications of this raw material, according to different authors. This paper presents additional compositional analyses for samples from the quarry and sites in the area, and discuss their characterization. Results suggest a more plausible identification as trachyandesites, and the compatibility between source and sites, but also opens the possibility of others sources in the area.
